Michael Rothgang works as researcher at the RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research in Essen since 2000. His research focuses on design and impacts of technology policies, especially cluster policy, sectoral and national innovation systems, and on identifying patterns of research and innovation processes. He studied economics at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and at Wayne State University, Detroit. He published on technology transfer, cluster policies and Technology policy in several refereed
journals. In recent years, he was project leader of major evaluation studies, among others, the evaluation of the Leading-Edge Cluster Competition. He has been jury member of the research policy programme Research Studios Austria multiple times.

DR HUSAM ARMAN ARMAN

Husam Arman is currently an Associate Research Specialist at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). Dr Arman is currently engaged in work related to improving Kuwait national competitiveness and in particular the national innovation system. His previous research was in technology, innovation, and R&D management. During his Research Fellow post while at the University of Nottingham, he worked with international firms such as Rolls-Royce to develop methodologies to optimize technology and innovation strategies. His university’s experience in the UK and Palestine included empirical studies with public organizations and firms with the purpose of improving industries, in addition to intuitional development activities. His work has appeared in R&D Management Journal, International Journal of Industrial and Systems Engineering, International Journal of Technology Intelligence, International Journal of Innovation and Technology Management, Technology Innovation Management Review, and Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy

After I graduated at University of Belgrade, Faculty of Organizational Sciences, the degree in Information Systems and Technology, I became a teaching associate at the Faculty at Department for Management of Technology, Innovation, and Development. During my work in the Faculty, I finished my master studies in Operations Research and Computational Statistics. My research interest in that period was the performance and official rankings of universities. Currently, I am in the final year of my doctoral studies and writing a thesis on the topic “Development of the model for measuring the performance of technology management based on the Triple Helix concept”.

I work as a teaching assistant at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of organizational sciences, Department for management of technology, innovation, and development. I graduated from FOS, department for Information Systems and Technologies with a bachelor’s thesis on “Management of technological development” and finished the master academic studies with the dissertation topic “Developing a model for improving technological and innovative performance of a company”. I am currently enrolled in PhD studies – Information Systems and Management. I am an author and co-author of about forty scientific research papers and three book chapters. My research and teaching areas of interest include technology and innovation management, performance measurement, SMEs development, sustainable development, technology entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
