Biography
Daria Tataj is a recognised expert on innovation networks and an author of ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
A New Growth Model for Europe Beyond the Crisis’ with a Preface by Manuel Castells. The book presents a
new collaborative innovation model and is the first comprehensive account of the EIT and the KICs.
Daria started her academic career with a scholarship of the French government at Paris I Pantheon-
Sorbonne. Later she became a researcher at the Polish Academy of Sciences and in 1997 defended her
PhD thesis on innovative design. Her academic career was put on hold as the dynamic transformation of the
post-communist economy inspired Daria to get an MBA, work in investment banking, venture capital, and
ultimately become an entrepreneur.
In 2004, she returned to academia to conduct research on talent and strategies for innovation and
entrepreneurship and new growth models in the digital economy. She was an assistant professor at the
Warsaw University of Technology Business School teaching OB/HR at an MBA program with London
Business School, and then a post-doc and an affiliate faculty at the University of Michigan. She completed a
visiting fellowship at Santa Clara University in San Jose, and delivered seminars on her research at a
number of leading academic institutions including Stanford, UCLA, and ESADE. She has been actively using
her knowledge to advise governments, European Commission, multilateral organizations, and serving on
boards, most notably, of EIT European Institute of Innovation and Technology (2008-2014), and EIT
Manufacturing (since 2020).
In 2019, Daria’s R&I consulting firm Tataj Innovation, was one of 9 women-owned companies selected for a
global acceleration program with Johnson&Johnson. The program helped develop a new framework for an
assessment process and online training solutions and found early adopters in Spain, UK, US, and The
Netherlands. Daria continues to conduct research and innovate by developing Network IQ methodology
which complements existing frameworks such as lean and agile. Her approach focusses on building digital
skills and dynamic capabilities to sense, seize and transform entrepreneurial opportunities into innovation-led
growth. The Network IQ Global Database demonstrates improved performance of distributed teams, stronger
digital brand and ability to achieve both business goals and impact (e.g. environmental sustainability or public
health objectives) trough technology and open innovation.
Daria has always been a vocal advocate of women empowerment and founded an organization which trained
and mentored hundreds of emerging women leaders. She was recognised as Social Innovator 2014 in
Poland. She was also recognised as a Digital Leader of the World Economic Forum and Los100deCOTEC, a
network of leading innovation experts in Spain. She is an Ambassador of The Collider, a deep-tech
acceleration program by the Mobile World Capital Barcelona and expert assessing investment projects and
acceleration programs from the European Investment Council and EIT Heath respectively.
