Triple Helix needs more academic development to reach a critical mass and be recognized as a global approach to supporting spheres’ actors to create technologies, innovation, and economic development. One relevant aspect is to develop comparatives studies among different countries to map the dissemination, experiences, and the evolution of the topic. A second aspect is the development of more practical tools to support entrepreneurs, managers, and policymakers, like the Amaral’s Model for Innovation Environments Management (AMIEM), useful to managers of techparks and innovation ecosystems/habitats to discuss regional economic development.

  • To make mature the Triple Helix scenario game training as a useful tool for practitioners and policy-makers to learn how to use Triple Helix model in improving their engagement in innovation. Only THA members are authorised to use the Triple Helix Scenario training tool.
  • To develop effective information sharing mechanisms regarding funding opportunities, job offers, publications and events etc.
  • To have the Triple Helix Journal included in major index databases, offering THA members Article Publication charge (APC) exemption.
  • To make the THA community a gateway between multiple networks of innovation research and practice, through developing collaborative relations with other associations/networks on innovation studies and innovation policy on a global scale.
  • To fully make use of THA as a multidisciplinary and boundary crossing community to provide members continuous sources of inspirations for creative ideas and innovation.

Actions proposed:

  • The Triple Helix Association is an organisation with a strong unfulfilled potential. Born out of a brilliant academic concept, it has not yet delivered its full power to society. The concept itself has become a well-accepted and ubiquitous factor of socio-economic development, especially in the context of Western societies, while gathering increasing traction in developing countries. Yet, most will agree that the Association itself has not yet won the place it deserves in the academic and policymaking circles that influence decision-making. Membership is rather low and diffusion of key messages has difficulties to take-off.
  • Other similar organisations display a healthier performance (e.g. Innovation Excellence, Peter Drucker Forum, World Economic Forum, INGSA etc.). We need to have a thorough review of the THA, its structures, profile, branding, activities, presentation, delivery of services and key messages. We need to review our potential and put forward our key selling points. This will allow the THA to find a new path to a better performance. I think that I could contribute to such an effort.
