During the latest THA webinar “Industry4.0:Inputs, Outputs and Start-ups” delivered on 5th October 2017, by Caroline Paunov, Senior Economist and Head of Secretariat for the OECD Working Party on Innovation and Technology Policy (TIP) at the Directorate for Science, Technology, and Innovation of the OECD and José Saenz Senior Research Scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation, we have discussed the impact of the digital revolution over our society with a focus on public research institutions and their innovation performance and discussed which new policy instruments and mix would be needed to maximize the benefits and reduce the risks of the fourth industrial revolution.
We observed via the case of Fraunhofer, how the robotics sector could benefit from the big data and digitalization and which legal, cultural, operational and regulatory barriers should be removed for taking full advantage of the digital revolution in such promising research field.
