SATHA in collaboration with The University of Punjab, Institute of Research Promotion and University of Management and Technology has held, on 4-5 March 2015, the 4th Invention to Innovation Summit in Lahore. The summit takes place annually under the supervision of SATHA president Mr. Abid H. K. Shirwani. Objective of the summit was to have industry call on specific technology challenges and academic responses in terms of R&D potential in the required technology challenges. The summit proves to be a great networking event for people from universities, industries, and public sector. In the summit there were different oral presentations on selected technologies and the summit was also a platform to commercialize any technology selected by respected jury from industry and academia. The organizers, speakers and panelists from public sector, industry and academia played a great role in their sessions.
One of the most important session of this Innovation Summit was gathering people from designated offices of academic institutions which are involved in research and commercialization. The Offices of Research and Commercialization (ORIC) in all universities of the region have actively participated in this summit and discussed the system bottlenecks in promoting applied research. The ORIC session on policies for supporting applied research in universities, organized by Pakistan Council for Science and Technology, IRP and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries. Lahore Chamber, hosted around 80 research directors of universities coming from all over the Pakistan. Directors of ORIC did brain storming about current policies and proposed policy improvements to foster applied research in the country.
In the evening of 4th March the president of SATHA Mr. Abid H. K. Shirwani invited all participants of the summit at an Innovation Dinner. This dinner proved to be a great networking opportunity for the researchers and practitioners. SATHA executive Vice President Mr. Khalil A. Arbi presented Triple Helix model to the audience and invited them to become member of the THA for an improved networking with the international researcher community. The participants of the dinner have liked the philosophy of Triple Helix and after the dinner many participants asked for ways to become member of THA community.
